Please, take into account that the Bolivian currency is the Boliviano (Bs). There is a money exchange office at the airport, and several ATMs. It is also easy to change money in the city using ATMs and offices.
You can pay by bank card in some restaurants and hotels of high standing. For everything else (transport, markets, most of the restaurants and coffees, etc), you will need cash (Bs).
The airport is situated at El Alto, near La Paz. To go to your hotel, please take a taxi (around 80bs ~ 11$US to the historical center, until 100bs ~ 14$US for the South part of the city). A bus line belonging to the airport also goes from the airport to the center of La Paz (Plaza Isabel La Catolica, 4bs ~ 0.50$US) between 6:30 to 21:00; you can stop it where you want. Taxis and buses are situated on the parking at the exit of the airport.
La Paz is a big city with a population of about 1 million, which ranges from 3,200 to 4,000 meters above sea level. The centered of the city is located near Plaza Murillo, at an altitude of 3,600 meters. The majority of the touristic points are situated in this neighbourhood. The south part of the town (Zona Sur, neighbourhoods of Calacoto, San Miguel) has the lowest altitude (3,200 meters) and benefits of a warmer climate.
There are plenty of hotels in La Paz, from the cheapest one to the 5-stars. Please, have a look at reservation pages like booking to have an idea of the diversity of accomodation, prices, locations … Please, feel free to ask if you have any doubt.
We recommend to book an hotel near the event place because traffic jams are numerous in La Paz, and for your safety, in the south part of the town, or eventually in the historical center.
List of hotels with reduced fees for LAWNP participants, located in the surrounds of the event site: prices per night (USD) include private bathroom, wifi, and breakfast.
To obtain these prices, please book directly on the webpage of the hotel indicating the name of the event.
Three hotels (in yellow on the map) offer more reduced fees if at least 10 participants booked there, so we recommand to book preferentially in these hotels.
On the map, the white star in a brown circle (EMI: Escuela Militar de Ingenieria) is the LAWNP's site, the hotels being in yellow and violet. If you click on the hotel, you have access to the webpage.

The LAWNP will be held in EMI (Escuela Militar de Ingenieria) situated in the South zone of La Paz, in the Irpavi neighborhood. It can be easily reached by:
Radio taxis (with roof bubbles advertising their telephone numbers) are recommended. Charges are a little higher after 8pm. Normal taxi services (with just a taxi sign, no phone number and no bubble) are best avoided as they may not be safe.
Trufi are shared cars or minibuses that ply set routes. Destinations are identified on placards on the roof or windscreen. They charge approximately 3-4bs around town.
La Paz’s micros, the older three-quarter-sized buses, charge about B$2 per trip. Minibuses service most places as well, for a slightly higher cost. In addition to a route number or letter, micros plainly display their destination and route on a signboard posted in the front window. Wave to catch the bus and stop it when you need. They stop whenever you wave them down.
These buses are relatively new. They have set routes and specific stops. They charge 2-3bs per trip, you can pay directly by cash inside the bus. Please have a look at their website to know the different routes.
La Paz is home to the longest, highest and most modern urban cable car network in the world. A ride in one line is 3bs. Please have a look at their website to know the different routes.
- taxi: you have to precise EMI-Irpavi.
- cable car: EMI is located near the last stop "Irpavi" of the green line (noted on the map above "Estación Teleférico Línea Verde - Irpavi"). From the center of the city, you can take the sky blue line ("linea celeste") from El Prado station, near Plaza Camacho until the last stop, and then change for the green line until the last station "Irpavi".
- by bus: a lot of lines go through "Avenida Roma - Avenida Balivian", the main road colored in orange on the map above. Then, stop at the 12th or 13th street of Calacoto and go by foot.
- by trufi: there is some lines from the center of La Paz (Prado) to Irpavi. So just take one with "Irpavi" direction on the placards on the windscreen.
Transportation inside La Paz
Ask your hotel or restaurant to ring for a taxi. Otherwise, taxis can be waved down anywhere. Always confirm the fare before you enter the taxi.
A newer solution to safe taxis is to use the Easy Taxi app. Uber is also available now in La Paz, and you can review the driver's rating before booking a ride.
